Charter CFO Jessica Fischer Joins Blackstone-Google AI Venture as Investment in AI Infrastructure Surges

Charter Communications CFO Jessica Fischer is leaving the company on October 15 to become the founding CFO of a new AI infrastructure venture backed by Blackstone and Google. Her move highlights the growing shift of senior finance talent toward the rapidly expanding artificial intelligence sector.

Blackstone and Google announced the joint venture in May, with plans to build U.S.-based computing infrastructure for AI models and applications. Blackstone is committing an initial $5 billion in equity, while the venture aims to reach 500 megawatts of capacity by 2027 and expand significantly beyond that. Google will contribute its AI chips and related technology.

Fischer joined Charter in 2017 as corporate treasurer and became CFO in 2021. Before Charter, she worked as a partner in EY’s national tax department. She brings extensive experience managing finance at a large, infrastructure-heavy public company—experience that could prove valuable as the new venture prepares for billions of dollars in investment.

Her departure comes as Charter faces rising competition and broadband subscriber losses. The company has appointed Kevin Howard, its executive vice president, chief accounting officer and controller, as interim CFO while it searches for a permanent replacement.

Fischer’s move also reflects a broader trend in corporate America: AI infrastructure is increasingly attracting both capital and experienced executives from traditional industries. As companies race to expand computing capacity, finance leaders with expertise in large-scale investments are becoming increasingly important to managing the enormous costs and risks involved in the AI boom.
